Weekend Out!

with 2 comments

For the last few weeks the weather during the week has been quite pleasant… but as soon as Saturday and Sunday roll around, the weather has turned to crap. In fact, as we start spring here in the Land of the Morning Calm, we should be walking in the glory of the annual cherry blossoms. However, since it has remained so cold and crappy, all of the cherry blossoms are hidden!!!

Since the weather was so nice these past two days, Jo and I ventured out in Dongtan on Saturday and were able to finally see the first cherry blossoms. Hopefully they’ll be out in full bloom next week and we can take advantage of those sights around Seoul.

Saturday night, we met up with a few teachers from school and had some amazing fried chicken, chips, and beer! It was great hanging out with everyone around from work and I’m looking forward to doing it more often.

Sunday, I took Jo out on one of my favorite walks in Seoul. It’s a route picked out by Lonely Planet, and to be honest, it isn’t too bad. You start off at near Jong-no i (2) ga, then head to City Hall via Cheonggyecheon Stream. Then make your way to Namdaemun before finishing up at Namsan.

The book tells you can easily make this trip in 90 minutes, but I think who ever wrote that was on crack, because that doesn’t allow enough time to stop and take in the sights along the way.

Jo and I decided to take the trip a few kilometers further and actually hike up Namsan to the N Seoul Tower. Our favorite point along the way is a lookout on the north face that rests beside the cable cars. If you have a chance (and the guide book), be sure to check out the “Old and New Downtown Walk,” I think you’ll like it.

As it stands now, I’m processing the video from the trip and will be editing it over the next few days. I hope you all had a great weekend!

What did you do?

  1. Sounds like a great walk! It’s good you’re out and about trying to see all the cool places in Korea. I haven’t been recently… I really don’t know my own town, which is a shame… need to get that “newbie” feeling back again! My weekend was as you saw on my blog… filled with A’s events! 🙂
