The QiRanger Adventures

I’ve been toying with the idea of changing my YouTube location to South Korea for some time. Mainly since that’s my location. The main reason I resisted doing that was because once you select a new country, all the messages from YouTube arrive at your inbox in the local language. In this case, that means hangul Korean.

Now since I don’t read Hangul or even understand romanized Korean, I resisted. But ever since I’ve started posting videos here, I’ve been amazed at the honors my little videos have received. I really don’t think much about my vids. It’s a creative outlet that I enjoy participating in. But when I decided to change my location yesterday and logged back in at night… I found the following:

Wow! Who would have thought! While the honors really don’t mean anything, the cool thing that is has done was bring in a whole influx of Korean subscribers. I’ve enjoyed reading their comments this morning and can’t wait to receive their thoughts as I post videos here.

Yesterday was, of course our long day, meaning that today is filled with awesome, as it will be nice and easy paced. I get to start a class with 2.1 and can’t wait. I also have a nother class continuing with their 1.4 Language program. But what I want to talk about is how much fun I had last night in my “review” 1.5 Language class.

I call it my “Review” class, since they’ve finished the book and I create exercises for them on a daily basis to hone their writing skills. So I decided to hone their note taking skills and free-flowing sentence writing abilities. How did I do this? We watched the full 18 minute “Plateau Point” hiking video and had them write a paragraph about what they saw, who was in it, what the people were doing, and what they liked.

Even though the kids were sitting on opposite sides of the table, they actually came up with similar topic sentences. I thought it was interesting to also note, that even though there was a total of 18 minutes of film, they had to race through the list of questions while taking notes so that someone could be the first done.

On another educational note, my morning writing class was much better today. Now that I don’t have to blow through an entire unit in a day, I can actually focus more on helping these students develop good sentence structure… well as much as I can in 40 minutes.
